My Story

A long learner journey into training with the PGA as a Golf Coach

When I was competing as an amateur at the top of my own game, as the Gleneagles Ladies Club Champion and for the Stirling and Clackmannan County team with a handicap of 2.7, it did occur to me that I could turn professional. I loved nothing more than unravelling and simplifying the mechanics of the golf swing when my friends asked me for the odd helpful tip. I could imagine feeling really fulfilled as a golf coach.

At that time though I was immersed in a career as Senior Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy at Dundee University. So I neglected my love of golf in order to pursue another passion for medical and dental education.

However, my natural affection for sport is deeply ingrained. I have played hockey for Scotland at full international level and currently compete in the Perthshire badminton leagues. With the arrival of my fiftieth birthday I realised it was now or never for any golf coaching ambitions. I was delighted when accepted by the Professional Golfers Association and the University of the Highlands and Islands onto the Diploma in Professional Golf.

Your needs are my motivation

Maybe you are a low handicap player of great experience and all you require is a quick swing check on a change you are working on yourself? It would be my pleasure.

Perhaps you like to start each season off with a series of lessons? I'd be delighted to assist.

Or maybe you don't know what you need and would like a helping hand to get started in the game, to come back to golf after a break, to transfer into golf from another sport as I did, or to work out where things may be going wrong for you technically, tactically or psychologically, as I am constantly having to do for my own game! We can get going on any of those together.

In addition to the golf Diploma I would hope to bring my nearly 20 years of experience as a qualified educator to golf coaching sessions: I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and have received many prizes for teaching from the students whom I have taught at Dundee University.

Through also having a personal development coaching qualification, I am sensitive to each individuals personal preferences for how they like to learn and interact with others. I would aim to create a comfortable learning environment for all players working on their game with me.

I would like to offer you my personalised assistance. I care about your success and enjoyment, both during coaching sessions and when you are out on the golf course.
